SALES AND MARKETING MANAGER

Smallholder Farmers’ Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawi origin to fill the position of Sales and Marketing Manager tenable at its Head Office, at ULIMI House in Blantyre. The Sales and Marketing Manager will be reporting to the Director of Commercial Services.

The overall responsibility of the Sales and Marketing Manager will be to provide strategic direction in planning, researching, developing marketing opportunities and implementing new sales growth strategies for the Fund’s products and services.

a) Key Duties and responsibilities

  • Developing, reviewing and monitoring sales and marketing policies, plans, strategies and procedures to ensure market penetration, growth and leadership.
  • Leading in conducting sales and marketing research (Identifying growth opportunities, competitor, and industry trends analysis).
  • Determining and making recommendations on business growth and market expansion initiatives.
  • Developing and updating market intelligence and pricing guidelines, staffing mix at markets, purchases and selling mix, inventory management etc;
  • Preparing departmental plans and budgets.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Maintaining SFFRFM’s marketing infrastructure. Managing adverts and promotional activities including digital marketing, print media and trade fair engagements.
  • Championing the implementation of improved customer relationship management strategy to help attract and retain a wider customer base and confidence in SFFRFM’s products and transactions.
  • Regularly preparing and submitting to the Director of Commercial Services various reports on commercial activities.
  • Any other duties pertaining to SFFRFM’s commercialization drive that may be assigned from time to time.

b) Qualifications and Experience

The candidate must have:

  • Master’s Degree in Marketing, Business Management or Agri-Business obtained from an accredited university.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Agri- Business or Marketing from an accredited university. Possession of professional qualification in marketing i.e. CIM will be an added advantage.
  • 10 years work experience in similar positions of which, at least 5 years of demonstrable work experience in a senior Management position in a reputable commercial organization.
  • Strong understanding of the agricultural industry and marketing dynamics
  • Experience or knowledge of strategic crops value chain systems.
  • Knowledge of agricultural commodity trading locally and internationally.
  • Understanding of structured commodity markets and policies that guide commodity trading.

c) Additional Skills, Abilities and Personal attributes

  • Must have knowledge of the Malawi Government’s agricultural policies and strategies.
  • Must have strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Must have experience in complex negotiations in international trade deals and contracts.
  • Must be able to develop strategic and trade proposals.
  • Proficiency in analysis of market and product data.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and Access).
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team with leadership skills for coaching and developing employees.
  • Mature with good leadership skills to manage a team and drive results.
