Chikwawa District Council

Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant positions tenable at Chikwawa District Council. The applicants must be willing to work in rural areas and subjected to Malawi Public Service Regulations (MPSR) from time
to time.

POST TITLE: PRINCIPAL FISHERIES OFFICER

Grade: G/M4
Salary: Within the range of Government (G/M4) salary Scale segment
Location: Chikwawa District Council

Duties

i. Plan and implement participatory fisheries extension
ii. Perform analysis of fish stock trends
iii. Plan and undertake extension activities
iv. Disseminate research results to fishing communities and fish farmers
v. Identify areas requiring Fisheries Department intervention at district level
vi. Facilitate the Application and Implementation of Regulatory Provisions as stipulated in the
Fisheries Conservation and Management Act
vii. In collaboration with other institutions, promote income generating activities among fishing
communities and fish farmers.
viii. Prepare and submit reports
ix. Submit Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reports
x. Supervise technical staff in their extension and Inspectorate programmes
xi. Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Fisheries

Education Qualification and Experience

Applicants must be Serving Senior Fisheries Officers (Grade H/M5) regardless of experience at that
grade or Fisheries Officers (Grade I/ M6) with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience at that grade
in Local Councils.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Successful candidates must be willing to be deployed in rural areas.
