The Hunger Project Malawi

The Hunger Project Malawi a branch of the Global Hunger Project currently working in Blantyre, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Dedza, Mwanza, Neno, Ntcheu, Salima and Zomba districts has received funding from KfW through UNICEF on behalf of the Government of Malawi to facilitate implementation
of interventions under the Multi-sectoral Nutrition Program including Early Childhood Development Phase II in Phalombe and Nsanje Districts. The project will be implemented for a period of 8 months in collaboration with relevant Government sectors.

The Hunger Project Malawi would like to recruit key staff with relevant skills and experienced to work on the project and ensure its successful implementation. The key positions to be recruited are as follows:

NUTRITIONIST (One Position)

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead professional development of the 13 modules of the SUN package and NECS-1000 days, communication and social mobilization, monitoring, supervision, reporting and fund management and budgets activities through most of the project cycle, from project rollout to the close-out phase in line with The Hunger Project Malawi project quality principles and standards, donor requirements, and best practices.
  • Effectively manage talent and supervising team dynamics and staff well-being; provide coaching; strategically tailor individual staff development plans; and contribute to project staff performance management for direct reports.
  • Ensure effective learning throughout project the project cycle; support accountability through proper coordination of project evaluation activities; and proactively identify issues, report them to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.
  • Engage and strengthen partnerships relevant to the project, applying appropriate partnership concepts, tools and approaches.
  • Represent the organization in forums with donors, technical working groups, district-level committees such as the DNCC and other relevant local partners and local government sectors and community actors on nutrition projecting.
  • Coordinate activities required for ensuring effective management of the financial, material and human resources for the quality implementation of the project; supervise staff and identify staff capacity needs and technical assistance needs of partner organizations and contribute to capacity strengthening to support quality project implementation.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly and annual analytical progress reports to assist in management of the project and donor requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of trend analysis reports and disseminate results. Review project documentation to ensure project file is complete with all required documentation and is filed per agency and donor requirements.
  • Ensure transparent and effective targeting of project participants based on clear criteria and participatory methods, and manage an effective mechanism for collecting and responding to feedback from the communities and project participants.
  • Take a leading role in monitoring achievement of set targets, and compliance to set indicators.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Master’s degree in Nutrition or Food Science from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in project management, ideally in the field of Nutrition or Food science including implementing nutrition based projects in an NGO environment.
  • Relevant financial management experience, especially for multinational donors or other public donor.
  • Staff supervision experience.
  • Experience working with stakeholders at various levels and strengthening community partnerships.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
