VACANCY : LEGAL AFFAIRS MANAGER

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Legal Affairs Manager. The successful candidate will report to the Finance and Administration Manager and the major activities of the position are:

  • Drafting and reviewing commercial agreements
  • Research, anticipate and guard company against legal risks
  • Guide managers and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
  • Structure, draft and review reports and other legal documents
  • Provide a professional, quality service in a timely manner, and respond effectively to requests from clients
  • Attend court hearings with external lawyers
  • Register land leases, maintaing and keep record of all land documents
  • Perform due diligence for onboarding business partners in liason with the Compliance Office
  • Follow up and track conflict of interest declaration by employees
  • Liaise with external lawyers for all legal matter
  • Prepare and organize quarterly legal report briefing to management
  • Prepare annual legal cost reporting for Head office
  • Prepare a monthly brief to management for all legal risks or loopholes noted
  • Organize regular compliance briefing for employees and partners and present during meetings
  • Keep an updated register of contracts and ensure safe and properly organized storage of hard copies of all contracts
  • Perform related duties/activities as directed or assigned by management

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree and Certificate of admission to the Malawi bar
  • Minimum of 5 years post bar experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of competition law, corporate and commercial law, property law, regulatory law and litigation are essential
  • Working knowledge of tax law, environmental law and employment law and knowledge of the oil industry will be an advantage
  • Critical skills include strong legal technical skills, excellent communication, ability to influence, negotiation skills and well developed interpersonal
