Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO)
Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered nongovernmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to complement Government’s efforts in in the fight against HIV and AIDS and other health related issues.
MACRO’s Vision is “Malawi populace free of ill-Health” and its Mission is “Transform lives of Malawians through provision of high-quality HIV and AIDS, and other health related services”.
With funding from USAID through FHI360, MACRO is bridging gaps to maintain HIV epidemic control. MACRO has received funding to implement activities to ensure the prevention of Gender Based violence amongst AGYWs aged 25-29 years in Lilongwe Urban. The program will use the Start, Awareness, Support and Action (SASA) approach, an evidence-based community mobilization approach to prevent violence against women.
Therefore, MACRO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position in Lilongwe
Position: Information Technology officer
Location: Lilongwe
Reporting to: Monitoring and Evaluation manager
Position Overview
The ICT Officer will provide support in the installation and configuration of all computer systems, diagnose hardware and software faults, and solve technical and application problems. S/He will integrate security control solutions for all confidential data and systems. S/He will monitor performance and manage parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users. The ICT will support M & E Manager in identifying and building internal capacity for use of appropriate data visualization Software.
Qualifications and experience:
- A minimum of BSc. Computer Science, ICT, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least a minimum of 5 years work experience in similar role
- Experience with healthcare databases and electronic medical records is advantageous.
- Prior experience in healthcare technology or data-driven systems is a plus.
- Proficiency in database languages like PostgreSQL, MySQL and/or Oracle.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python and others for data manipulation and visualization.
- Experience in implementing security protocols, authentication mechanisms, and data encryption.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot all network, hardware, software and computer-related issues;
- Integrate and configure computer networking for best performance
- Troubleshoot and repair hardware, operating systems, and applications
- Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks
- Install and support all ICT hardware and software
- Maintain inventory of ICT equipment, hardware, and software and ensure adequate supply and functionality, in collaboration with relevant staff
- Enhance office IT system through appropriate upgrades and advise the Operations Unit on changes or improvements required
- Conduct electrical safety checks on computer equipment
- Integrate security control solutions for all confidential data and systems;
- Implement user authentication, role-based access control, and security measures to safeguard sensitive healthcare data.
- Ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and secure transmission within the system.
- Identify security gaps and provide relevant solutions in consultation with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager
- Monitor performance and manage parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users;
- Troubleshoot and debug issues, optimize performance, and conduct code reviews to maintain code quality.
- Develop and maintain the server-side logic, database structures, and data manipulation processes.
- Identify and build internal capacity for use of appropriate data visualization software i.e., Power BI, DHIS2 and others
- Contribute to the development of new analytical approaches and methodologies to address emerging challenges in healthcare.
- Apply machine learning techniques to analyse health data and extract relevant patterns, trends, and insights.
- Analyse existing software solutions to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop predictive models to forecast disease trends, patient outcomes, or healthcare utilization.
- Train M & E Officers/Assistants and Project teams in data management and reporting
- Creating technical documents for new software solutions
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to continuous improvement
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor
