World Relief Malawi is an International Christian Organization (NGO) working in Health, Economic development, Disaster Response and Refugee resettlement. World Relief mission is to empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable.

World Relief Malawi is implementing a project titled “Mzimba Child Development and Protection”. This is a 3 years’ project which commenced on 1st June 2022 and is ending in May, 2025, targeting Traditional Authority Mbelwa in Mzimba district. World Relief Malawi, therefore is inviting applications from interested and qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Child Development and Protection Project Officer in Mzimba district.

Job Title: Finance Officer (1 position)

Reports to: General Accountant

Location: Lilongwe

Role purpose:

Reporting to the General Accountant, the Finance Officer is responsible for providing accurate and timely reports, budget monitoring and preparing payments for all project transactions.

Specific Functions:

  • Documents review to ascertain the availability of budget, supporting documents, compliance to World Relief policies and donor requirements before payments are made
  • Providing guidance and support to all project staff on finance matters.
  • Ensure expenditure at the district is authorized, within budget and in line with organisation policies.
  • Maintaining the inventory and fixed asset registers for Rees Jones, Tearfund and KNHG projects
  • Banking and documenting all transactions in line with World Relief Finance Manual.
  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Supporting the institutional and project audit process.
  • Timely preparation of monthly and quarterly grant reports.
  • Timely preparation of donor financial reports
  • Supporting project staff on direct payments to participants and reconciliation of project advances

Qualifications and Experience

b) Degree in Accounting.
c) 3 years of related experience preferably in NGO set up.
d) Experience in the use of Cyrus.
e) High-level computer skills and experience using the following: MS Excel, MS Word.
f) Strong communication skills in both English and local languages.
g) Commitment to World Relief values.
