THE ORGANISATION
The Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) is an autonomous statutory corporation established by The Education Act (CAP.30:01) through the “Malawi College of Accountancy (Board of Governors) Order 1980”,
Government Notice number 164.

The College is responsible for the provision of training services in accounting and business related fields. Presently, the College operates from three centers of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.

The College is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Finance Director tenable in Blantyre.

FINANCE DIRECTOR

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB
Being the Head of the Finance Department at Grade MCA2, the Finance Director (FD) will be instrumental in achieving the College’s mission since s/he will be the link between the Finance Department on the one hand, and the Finance Committee of the Board on the other. The FD shall be responsible for the financial management of the College’s resources, provision of leadership to the Finance Department, and shall report to the Principal.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide financial leadership and management for the College and advising the Principal on the same.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Providing strategic financial leadership to the College to ensure that it achieves its objectives;
  2. Supervising all aspects of the College’s accounting, financial management and reporting functions;
  3. Leading the process of consolidating the College’s budgets and forecasts;
  4. Preparing and submitting monthly and quarterly operational and financial reports timely;
  5. Preparing financial accounts and reports timely for presentation to the Board in liaison with the Principal;
  6. Ensuring adequate and effective financial controls are in place and adhered to;
  7. Contributing to the formulation of the College’s strategies and business plans;
  8. Negotiating with financial institutions and relevant government authorities and other stakeholders in the country in order to facilitate financing of capital projects and investments;
  9. Working closely with internal and external auditors when conducting audits;
  10. Initiating investment decisions in line with the corporate strategy for consideration of the management team and the Board;
  11. Monitoring the performance of the College’s investment programmes /projects to ensure optimum returns;
  12. Supervising and overall responsibility for all staff in the finance department; and
  13. Assisting the Principal in the general administration of the College to ensure its smooth running and efficient operation.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
This position requires a mature, ethical, well-qualified and experienced person, therefore, applicants must have the following academic and professional qualifications;

  1. A Master’s and a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in either Accounting/ Finance or Business Administration from a reputable institution, recognized by National Council for Higher Education;
  2. A professionally qualified accountant with a recognized professional accountancy body and should be a member in good standing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM);
  3. At least 10 years’ practical work experience in accounting or finance with a minimum of 5 years at finance managerial level;
  4. A high level of business acumen and demonstrable experience in managing and controlling budgets and
    finances of a commercial institution;
  5. A strategic thinker, able to formulate and submit analytical, relevant and informative reports, timely and
    consistently, which will ultimately add value to the College’s operations; and
  6. A person of high integrity with excellent communication, interpersonal, planning, organisational, team building and strategic management skills.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The successful candidate shall be offered a performance related contract of three (3) years renewable based on satisfactory performance with an attractive salary and benefits commensurate with the seniority of the role based on experience and qualifications.
