African Parks (AP)

African Parks (AP) is a non-profit organisation that takes on direct responsibility for rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas, in partnership with governments and local communities. By adopting a business approach to conservation, supported by donor funding, African Parks aims to make each park sustainable in the long-term, thereby contributing to economic development and poverty alleviation. Currently African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves and Liwonde National Park.

African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant position.

Position: FIELD COMMUNITY ASSISTANT

Reports to: Community Liaison Officer
Location: Kabuwa- Nkhotakota District

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Planning and implementing extension and environmental education activities among local communities and schools bordering Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve
  • Act as liaison assistant between village/zone natural resources committees and African Parks Nkhotakota.
  • Coordinate and facilitate community meetings and functions at village level
  • Initiate community led livelihood and development activities in collaboration with the local communities
  • Establish and promote good public relations with various stakeholders, particularly local communities and traditional leaders
  • Facilitate exchange of knowledge, skills and experience between staff, community members and other stakeholders
  • Preparing monthly technical reports

Qualification and Experience

Diploma in any of the following:

  1. Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Agriculture Extension, Community Development
  2. Education (majoring in Biology) or Environmental science from a recognized institution
  • At least two years post qualification working experience with a reputable organization
  • Innovative trainer and facilitator
  • Willingness to live and work full-time in a rural setting.
  • Team player and ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in management of small to medium enterprises and environmental education is an added advantage
  • Those with higher qualification are also allowed to apply.
  • A valid motor cycle licence is a must
