VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
We are pleased to advertise the post of Extension Officer with the Farm Services Unit. This is an open ended contract.
LOCATION: Northern Region and Central Region – Applicants should specify their location of choice on the email headline or on the envelop cover.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to:
Regional Manager, Farm Services Unit
Overall responsibility:
Stationed at a Farmers World shop, provide broad extension services to farmers, with the aim of building farmer capacity and potential, while raising awareness and visibility of Farmers World products, with the aim of increasing farmer productivity and uptake of Farmers World products.
Duties:
- Build capacity of farmers and train community members in different skills resulting in uptake of improved and sustainable agricultural practices to enhance productivity.
- Carrying out soil sampling which will leads to customized fertilizer blends as well as advising farmers to apply right fertilizer at a proper rate.
- Undertake surveys, data collection, assessments and process information about farmers and farmer groups using android technology.
- Community mobilization activities and co-ordination efforts include setting up and management of demonstration plots and field days, working with key stakeholders and respective Farmers World shops in delivery of objectives.
- Managing FSU demo plots, and other Stakeholders who are in partner with fsu is while collaborating Area Extension Development Officer (AEDO) in the Extension Planning Area (EPA).
- Contribute to design and implementation of the project awareness campaigns, information dissemination, financial and marketing models, monitoring and evaluation.
- Assist the project to analyze soil health and management problems, develop and implement workable solutions to those problems.
- Facilitate transfer of technologies covering technical areas of soil management, fertilizer application and crop management to smallholder farmers through product demonstrations in targeted areas.
- Contribute to farmers’ understanding of Farmers World shops and all its products increasing awareness in the community.
- Use extension skills and knowledge to generate sales for Farmers World
- Contribute to production of case studies, articles and success stories showcasing successful models.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Diploma in Agriculture and any related programs, with at least two years working experience.
- Knowledge in digital data collection tools, familiar with Commcare, Survey CTO, Smallholder app, ODK and kobo collect.
- Willing to use a push bike in their day-to-day operations.
