Malawi Law Commission

The Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates to apply for the following position:

a) ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT (GRADE LC10) 

Reporting to the Accountant, the Assistant Accountant shall be responsible for provision of
preliminary accounting services to the Commission.

Qualifications and Experience

1. A Diploma in Accounting;
2. Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with credits in English and Mathematics;
3. Must be a member of ICAM;
4. Should be computer literate; and
5. Those with vast knowledge of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS) will have an added advantage.

Principal Duties include:

(i) Make payments for Other Recurrent Transactions (ORT)as well as donor projects and ensure that all payment vouchers are complete with relevant documents;
(ii) Prepare Bank reconciliation for ORT and donor funded projects;
(iii)Assist the accountant in preparation and submission of projects liquidation reports;
(iv)Ensure that Commission meetings are adequately serviced;
(v) Prepare and Update Advances ledger;
(vi)Facilitate the preparation of salaries;
(vii) Facilitate the preparation of expenditure returns;
(viii) Facilitate the preparation of cash transfers;
(ix)Facilitate the issuing of Cheques;
(x) Prepare monthly commitments;
(xi)Supervise the main accounts; and
(xii)Any other accounting related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
