Accountant Job Description:

Summary:

We are a Microfinance Company based in Lilongwe and we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented accountant to join our team. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records and reports. You will be responsible for a wide range of accounting and financial reporting tasks, and will work closely with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate financial information.

 

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Record and reconcile financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
  2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  3. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  4. Conduct regular audits of financial records and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  5. Prepare and file tax returns, including payroll taxes and sales taxes.
  6. Collaborate with internal and external auditors as needed.
  7. Provide support to the finance team, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of bank statements, and preparation of ad-hoc financial reports.
  8. Stay current on industry best practices and financial regulations, and recommend changes to company policies as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in accounting, with experience in a microfinance organization a plus.
  3. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations.
  4. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and QuickBooks.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
