Mzuzu Diocese Catholic Health Commission

Mzuzu Diocese Catholic Health Commission (MDCHC) is the Social and Health Arm of the Diocese of Mzuzu. It ensures that the health services that the Catholic Church provides in the Diocese are accessible to the rural masses and the quality of care being provided in line with professional standards and in the footsteps of Jesus Christ the founder of the Healing Ministry.

MDCHC champions the following three major tasks, mandates and operations:

Coordination of training of health personnel at its two health training colleges of St John of God College of Health Sciences; and St John’s College of Nursing and Midwifery;
Coordination of health services at its seven health facilities of: St John’s Hospital; St John of God House of Hospitality; Mzambazi Community Hospital; Katete Community Hospital; Nkhamenya Community Hospital, St Patrick’s Health Centre and Padro Pio Health Centre.
Coordination of community health programmes (HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, Early Childhood Development, OVC, Maternal and Child Health, Water and Sanitation, School Health, Gender Based Violence etc).
In its efforts of ensuring the provision of quality health services, MDCHC would like to recruit the Principal Hospital Administator to be deployed at ST JOHN’S HOSPITAL in Mzuzu.

Job Title: Principal Hospital Administrator

Grade: G (Government Salary Scale Segment)
Reporting to: The Hospital Director
Location: Mzuzu

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Analysing operations to evaluate performance of the hospital and its staff in meeting objectives, and to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
Directing and coordinating activities of all departments.
Directing and coordinating hospital’s financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency.
Directing human resources activities, including the approval of human resource plans and activities, the selection of heads of sections and other high-level staff.
Approving contracts and agreements with suppliers, distributors, state agencies, and other organizational entities.
Reviewing reports submitted by departmental heads to recommend approval or to suggest changes.
Making periodic St Patrick’s health centre visits.
Attending standing meetings
Acting as official hospital spokesperson.
Providing guidance and leadership for performance guidelines.
Developing policies and procedures.
Managing strategic development.
Managing physician relations and/or representation.
Handling patient complaints.
Addressing emergency issues.
Supporting Staff development
Managing community relations.
Qualification and Experience

A minimum of a Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resource Management, or related filed from recognised training institutions.
Those with Master’s Degree will have added advantage.
Minimum 8 years of experience in healthcare management or hospital administration.
Essential Skills

Ability to interpret human resource policies and financial reports
Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
Those with experience in the health sector will have an added advantage
Applicants should be conversant with the Malawi Labor Laws and have up-to-date conflict resolution skills
Have strong analytical and time management skills
Be conscientious and result-oriented
Proven leadership abilities with a strong track record of managing hospital operations.
In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and best practices.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
