Position Description
The Youth Health & Protection Advisor will be the lead technical expert for adolescent sexual-reproductive health, HIV, and violence prevention education and support to targeted youth, especially adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). S/he will provide expert guidance on appropriate technical and programmatic approaches for school-based efforts to promote adolescent health, reduce teenage pregnancy and HIV/STI risk and incidence, and prevent sexual and gender-based violence (GBV). S/he will support roll-out and integration of a school-based package of activities, including life skills and SRH/HIV/GBV education, youth mobilization/peer mentorship, and linkage to health and social protection services for vulnerable learners.
The candidate for the position of Youth Health & Protection Advisor shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:
Education:
A Master’s degree in public health, health management, youth development, education, or related discipline.
Skills and Experience:
· Minimum 8 years professional experience with adolescent health education/promotion programs, inclusive of at least 3 to 5 years in a technical leadership role in resource-challenged settings;
· At least 3 years of experience with implementation of school-based programming, such as comprehensive sexuality education, life skills (inclusive of health education), school health programming, or similar;
· Experience developing curricula, training materials, tools/resources, and messages for health education;
· History of working in and around schools, including work with teachers and school administrators/leadership structures;
· Understanding of cultural dynamics related to adolescent health, and experience developing key messages and strategies for parent/community engagement to increase acceptance of adolescent health education and service uptake efforts;
· Understanding of youth-friendly SRH services, family planning/HIV integration, and GBV care, and experience establishing systems to identify and refer youth/clients to services;
· Experience with DREAMS and/or PEPFAR programming an asset.
Language:
Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Chichewa is desired.
