The UNDP Young Professional Programme (YPP) is designed for highly qualified and motivated young Malawian professionals recently graduated from Masters programmes or in some cases, from Bachelor’s Degree programmes. The programme provides an opportunity to start a development career through “on the job’ professional development that can be based on learning from UNDP’s programmes, policies and operations. Training and learning will be part of the day-to-day activities under the UNDP Young Professional Programme. The key qualifications required for consideration will include meeting the age requirement of 32 or below.

Communications Unit is crucial for the UNDP in Malawi and provides the tools in enhancing public knowledge on development aspirations. The unit is crosscutting and supports the Malawi Country Programme Document and UNDP’ contributions to the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).

With the support of the Communications Strategy as our framework, we work to further strengthen and innovate UNDP Malawi’s communications, enhance Public Knowledge, information and understanding of our work, as well as conducting advocacy to influence policy agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Support the implementation of internal communications activities for the CO
  • Compiling weekly internal highlights for the digital board
  1. Support the production of relevant Communication Materials
  • Support production of branded items with service providers
  • Drafting of stories of change, Press Releases, Blogs and monthly highlights of UNDP Malawi’s work
  1. Support the management of the UNDP Malawi’s website and social media platforms
  • Daily updates of Facebook and Twitter
  • Monthly updates of UNDP Malawi website
  • Update of UNDP Youtube channel with new content
  • Weekly uploads of all relevant communications documents and pictures on the UNDP communications shared drive
  1. Support media management and planning of key project events
  • Organise media visits, breakfast with the media for increased engagement
  • Ensuring Coverage of UNDP in the local media
  • Daily media monitoring Reports of UNDP coverage
  1. Administrative support on communications
  • Liaising with service providers on delivery of communications products
  • Support to associates in processing payments for service provider

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or any related field from a recognized institution; OR
    Completion of Secondary Education with certification in journalism, Communications, or any related field from a recognized institution
Experience:
  • At least 3 years of work experience in media and communication for Bachelor’s degree holders; and six years experience for those with secondary level education
