H.E.JACKSON ENGINEERING – MALAWI is seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Workshops & Heavy Plant Manager to lead and manage the operations of their mechanical workshops and heavy plant machinery. This is a challenging opportunity for a proactive, focused and results-orientated person to join a growing and dynamic company.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee the day-to-day management of the mechanical workshop, including maintenance and repair of vehicles, trucks, heavy plant equipment and machinery.
• Supervise and lead a team of technicians and mechanics to ensure high standards of performance, availability and safety.
• Manage and coordinate scheduled services, preventative maintenance programs for all vehicles, trucks, machinery and heavy plant equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and manage the workshop’s operational budgets, resources, and inventory of spare parts.
• Liaise with vendors, customers and intercompany departments to ensure high-quality service delivery.
• Prepare computer generated reports on performance, maintenance schedules, and equipment status.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Proven experience in managing mechanical workshops and heavy plant equipment, in challenging countries / regions, preferably in a supervisory role.
• Strong and proven technical expertise in mechanical and electronic vehicle, truck and plant equipment maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• In-depth understanding of safety protocols and regulations in heavy machinery operations.
• Ability to handle operational budgets in a tight fiscal environment, procurement planning and sourcing, scheduling all aspects of responsibilities.
• High level of computer literacy / ability.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Relevant technical qualifications in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Prior experience in the construction, mining, and agricultural sectors is a plus.
• Excellent English speaking and written communication with interpersonal skills essential.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging, high pressure environment.
• Malawi citizen / resident is an advantage but not essential.
