Background

Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2 million people in 47 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HlV/AlDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STl) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard-to-reach health facilities located across five districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Nsanje and Chikwawa, with plans to expand services to Nkhotakota district in 2025.

FY 2025 expansion also includes the opening of a wellness centre clinic that will be implemented at Biwi health centre in Lilongwe. The wellness clinic will provide Reproductive Health Services,
focusing on sexually transmitted Infections and cervical cancer. The Wellness Clinic project will have an operations research component.

Position Title: Wellness Clinic Comprehensive Nurse (1 position)

Reports to: Clinical Officer-Biwi Wellness Centre Clinic

Duty Station: Biwi Health Centre-Wellness Clinic

Overall Responsibility

The Wellness Centre Clinic Nurse will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day services of the clinic and implement research according to required standards at the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the wellness centre clinical officer, provide in-person review of clients presenting with STIs-history taking, physical examinations, sample collection, prescription of treatment, administering treatment
  • Provide health education and counselling to clients treated for STIs
  • Refer client appropriately to different departments- HTS, laboratory, Clinician, Counselling etc
  • Collect data for wellness clinic operations research study.
  • Stock management of wellness clinic supplies, including lab reagents, medical supplies, gynaecological equipment and medication for the clinic
  • Ensure IPC protocols are followed in the wellness clinic, including sterility of gynaecological instruments, appropriate waste disposal and cleanliness of the environment
  • Provide routine counselling and partner notification slips administration to index cases and/or follow up
  • Conducting cervical cancer screening to eligible women
  • Supporting Quality Improvement Projects on Wellness Centre

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery from a Reputable Institution and in good standing with the Nurses Council of Malawi, with at least 2 years work experience
  • Experience in managing Sexually Transmitted Infections, other reproductive illnesses and operations research.
  • Certification in VIA provision is an added advantage
  • Well conversant with HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care with UpToDate certifications
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including attention to operational and research detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with internal and external stakeholders using logical, precise, non-technical language
