WaterAid

WaterAid is an international development organization that is working to transform the lives of vulnerable communities with safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). WaterAid’s vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. By 2030, we want everyone in Malawi to have clean water, decent sanitation and good hygiene.

WaterAid is a member of a Consortium implementing a USAID funded multi-year health systems strengthening and service delivery project in Chitipa, Karonga, Kasungu, Salima and Nkhotakota. The project goal is reducing maternal, new-born, and child mortality through improved access and quality of health service delivery. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Consortium will work to provide quality primary care for essential and integrated Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH) FP/RH, nutrition, WASH and malaria; Empower Individuals, communities and local organizations to demand higher quality and more available health services, and improve their health seeking behaviour, and engaging multiple sectors to address the social determinants of health.

Under the Momentum Project, WaterAid is looking for experienced individuals to play a vital role in contributing towards Momentum project objectives and WaterAid’s overall mission in Malawi. This a
4-year tenure role.

Wash District Officers 

The WASH District Officers will be based in Chitipa and Kasungu respectively. Reporting to the WASH Advisor – Momentum Activity-Component 2, this is a position with a responsibility for technical
coordination, management and monitoring implementation of the WASH component of the Project in Chitipa/Kasungu District. He/she will provide technical leadership in implementing WASH interventions in partnership with MOMENTUM Activity component 2 Consortium partners
in Chitipa/ Kasungu district to ensure efficient and effective and quality delivery in line with USAID rules and regulations and WaterAid Quality

Programme Standards.

Specifically, the WASH Manager will be responsible for the following:

i. Programme Planning & Development and management
ii. Contracts Management
iii. Partnerships, Collaboration and Networking

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Development Planning, Development Studies from a recognized University, or professional qualifications in civil engineering, water and sanitation, environmental/Public health. A Masters is desirable.
  • In addition, he or she must have a minimum of five years’ experience in programme planning, development and management of integrated WASH programmes in the Malawi context.
  • Proven experience in water and sanitation work in Malawian context
  • Developing and managing projects, budgeting and budget management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience of working in a consortium.
  • Experience in managing donor funded projects – USAID experience will be an added advantage
  • Sound financial management skills
