Visiting Faculty – Traveling PositionInternational Honors Program/SIT Study AbroadIHP Food Systems: Agriculture, Sustainability, and JusticeSchool for International Training seeks a full-time, Visiting Faculty member to join an interdisciplinary team of faculty and host country coordinators for IHP’s Food Systems: Agriculture, Sustainability, and Justice program inin the Spring of 2023. Each four-month term will take approximately 20-30 students from leading U.S. colleges and universities to four program locations to do inter-disciplinary study from a global comparative perspective.

The Tentative Itinerary Is As Follows

  • Spring 2023 (late January to early May): Georgia (USA), Ecuador, Malawi, and Spain

Responsibilities

We are seeking traveling faculty member who will:

  • Facilitate learning and teach two courses:
    • Politics, Ethics and Food Security (a Political Science course)
    • Getting from Field to Fork (an Economics course)

  • Facilitate student learning through processing of non-lecture program components and providing timely feedback on assignments. Regular participation in all country program activities including guest speakers, site visits and other non-lecture components is expected.
  • Work with the Dean of Faculty, Program Director, and Country Coordinators, to ensure that any academic, administrative and student problems associated with the program are resolved.
  • Take appropriate measures to protect the health and safety of students in partnership with SIT Student Affairs and local staff.
  • Faculty are responsible for ensuring that all students traveling on the official group flight are checked-in and through immigration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidates should have:

  • A PhD or terminal degree in a relevant field such as: Development Economics, Sustainable Development, International Affairs/Public Policy, Political Science, Human Geography, or Food Systems Planning, or a specific focus on Food Insecurity or Food Systems Studies.
  • Experience working in public policy, non-profit or advocacy groups, research, law, trade, or commerce related to food systems.
  • Experience living and working abroad.
  • Expertise in at least one of the topic areas listed above and general knowledge of food insecurity, food systems, advocacy, and social change.
  • Experience teaching at the college level and a strong commitment to experiential learning, including non-didactic methods that promote critical thinking and field-based research, discussion, and self-reflection.
  • The physical stamina, emotional maturity, mental health, and personal qualities—patience, adaptability, collegiality, cross-cultural competence, and organization—needed to build an intensive, team-oriented study abroad program that covers three countries in four months.
  • The ability and desire to support, communicate and actively engage with students throughout the study abroad experience both in and outside of the classroom.
