Post : Village Industrial Technician Officer (Grade J)
Salary : Within the Grade J salary scale segment
Location : Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare

Qualifications:
Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in a Community Development, or relevant field plus 4 years’ experience as Village Industrial Technician, Grade K in implementation of pottery, biogas, weaving, briquettes, cane furniture, tie and dye, candle making and soap making.

Duties:

  • Planning and organizing short and long term Appropriate Technology Skills development through training programmes for government departments and Non-Governmental Organizations;
  • Providing technical know-how on Appropriate Technology (AT) skills suitable for rural development and economic empowerment:
  • Facilitates the transfer of Appropriate Technologies developed at Magomero college as a focal Point to various District Councils across the country:
  • Coordinates the implementation of Appropriate Technologies skills development at the college;
  • Developing sound marketing strategies for finished goods produced from the Appropriate Technologies Section;
  • Monitoring production and supervising Appropriate Technology production section to ensure quality assurance;
  • Developing course outlines and content for various AT trainings;
  • Conduction research to improve innovation and competitive capacity of production units such as Weaving Technology, cane furniture, bio gas, candle making, soap making, tie and dye, potter/ and many other;
  • Orienting students undergoing various academic programmes on Appropriate Technologies at the college;
  • Preparing budgets for acquisition of equipment and raw materials required in the Appropriate Technology section;
  • Maintaining business records for the products sold from Appropriate Technology section:
  • Facilitating the participation in local and international trade fairs;
  • Facilitating certification of products by Malawi Bureau of Standards;
  • Mobilizing resources for the Appropriate Technology Section: and
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time.

Note:
Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be required during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews
that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of condition of appointment on probation (PSR 19).
