The Lake Malawi Anglican University (LAMAU) is a faith based supported with equal opportunities for higher education institution which is fully accredited and recognized by the Malawi Government through the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). LAMAU runs Theology, Commerce, Public Health, Corporate Security Management, Education (Humanities) and Community Development programs.

In order to meet the quality education standards as prescribed by NCHE, LAMAU invites applications from qualified and competent persons for the following position tenable at the College for Christian Ministries (CCM) Main Campus in Area 47 and its Extension Campus at Area 18/28G in Lilongwe:

1. UNIVERSITY FINANCE OFFICER (UFO)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Provide leadership to the finance section of the University;
  • Advise management on financial matters through monthly financial statements;
  • Assist the Vice-Chancellor to source and deploy funding for the day to day running
    of the University;
  • Oversee University assets, movable and immovable to ensure their safe keeping;
  • Lead the University budgeting process;
  • Monitor and evaluate expenditure control;
  • Manage pensions and general insurances of the University;
  • Plan and manage investment portfolios for the University.
  • Prepare final accounts for the University as well as statements for internal and external audit.
  • Prepare proposals to address gaps in the finance management of the institution (financial policy development) and submit to management for review.
  • Execute recommendations from the finance and audit committees, external and internal auditors.
  • Spearhead Fund Raising Activities
  • Present quarterly budget performance and management accounting reports to the Finance and Audit Committee of Council
  • Perform any other duties as prescribed by the LAMAU constitution, Statues and Council or assigned by the council or as delegated by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Accountancy /
    Finance/Marketing/Social Science majoring in Economics) obtained from a recognized
    training institution and those with Masters’ Degree or Chartered Accountancy will
    have an added advantage.
  • At least three years’ practical experience working at a busy institution.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Strong Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Computer Literate with Financial package skills;
  • Ability of to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
  • Familiarity with relevant government policies related to parastatals; and
  • Diplomatic and tactful

REMUNERATION:

Attractive packages commensurate with qualification and experience will be considered and offered to the successful candidates.
