Overview
The Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET) is Malawi’s premier institution in tobacco research, extension and training services. Established in 1995 and funded primarily by tobacco growers, ARET’s Core activities include development and dissemination of tobacco technologies and training of stakeholders in order to sustain and improve tobacco productivity while conserving the natural resources.
An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated professionals with requisite academic qualifications and technical expertise to fill existing vacant posts that have arisen in ARET as follows:
TRACTOR DRIVER
THE CANDIDATE
The Trust is looking for someone with good concentration skills and excellent eye coordination. He/she must be detail oriented and should demonstrate strength.and ability to camy out duties unsupervised, in harsh weather conditions and during irregular hours when required.
Tenable at Mwimba College of Agriculture in Kasungu.
KEY FUNCTION
Reporting to the Farm Supervisor, the Tractor Driver will be required to operate and.control tractors and related equipment to support agricultural activities such as ploughing, harvesting, etc. He/she will ensure all the farm equipment and other farm implements under his/her charge are well maintained at all times.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
•Operate tractors safely and eficiently, attaching farm implements such as ploughs and discs to prepare fields.
Cary out farm activities like plowing. harowing. ridging, spaying chemicals, etc.
•Perform inspections of tractors and attachments like graders, rollers and plows, and ensure they are well-Hubricated and kept orderly.
•Monitor fuel and fuid levels, refiling as needed.
•Assist in fransporting materials like farm supplies and produce and pull and push agricultural equipment.
•Cary out basic maintenance and repairs on tractors and fam equipment.
•Maintain lawns and roadside verges with tractor cutting attachments.
•Report any faults or concerns fo the Farm Supervisor and other relevant authorities.
•Ensure that the tractor and all equipment are kept clean, tidy and in good working condition when not in operation.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Primary School Leaving Certificate
Candidates with Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) will have an added advantage
•Possess a relevant Tractor Driver’s Licence.
•Three years of relevant experience.
