Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and preferably MERA-certified Technical Services Manager (TSM) to join our dynamic team. The Technical Services Manager will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of our renewable energy projects, ensuring the highest standards of design, implementation, and maintenance. This role demands a deep understanding of renewable energy systems, regulatory compliance, and advanced project management skills. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving technical excellence and innovation within Community Energy Malawi (CEM) and its subsidiary enterprises.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical design and engineering of renewable energy projects, including detailed planning for solar mini grids, biogas systems, micro grids, and battery storage solutions.

• Ensure all projects meet MERA (Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority) certification standards and comply with all relevant regulations and technical guidelines.

• Conduct comprehensive technical assessments, site evaluations, and feasibility studies to inform project planning and development.

• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and optimization of renewable energy systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability.

• Develop and implement advanced maintenance protocols and troubleshooting procedures for all energy systems.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

• Collaborate with regulatory authorities, government bodies, and community stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and compliance.

• Utilize advanced project management methodologies and tools to track project progress, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery within budget constraints.

• Prepare detailed technical reports, design documents, and project proposals, presenting findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies, integrating cutting-edge solutions into project designs and operations.

• Conduct technical training sessions for staff and community members to enhance their understanding and capacity in renewable energy technologies.

• Lead the development of technical tenders and proposals to support fundraising for CEM

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.

• MERA license is required. If not holding MERA license, the candidate should be working towards getting MERA license.

• In-depth knowledge of Malawi Energy Laws, regulations, policies, standards, and compliance requirements.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on technical project initiation, deployment, management and operations.

• Proven and demonstrable experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems including Mini-grids.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in complex technical environments.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proficiency in advanced project management software and engineering design tools.
