Location: CEM HQ, Area 14, Lilongwe, Malawi with extensive travelling to project sites

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and preferably MERA-certified Technical Officer (TO) to join our dynamic team. The TO will be responsible for supporting the technical aspects of our renewable energy projects, ensuring the highest standards of design, implementation, and maintenance. This role demands a good understanding of renewable energy systems, regulatory compliance, and advanced project management skills. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting technical excellence and innovation within Community Energy Malawi (CEM) and its subsidiary enterprises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the technical design and engineering of renewable energy projects, including detailed planning for mini grids, biogas systems, micro grids, and battery storage solutions.

  • Ensure compliance of all projects to MERA (Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority) certification standards and all relevant regulations and technical guidelines.

  • Assist in technical assessments, site evaluations, and feasibility studies to inform project planning and development.

  • Participate in the installation, commissioning, and optimization of renewable energy systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of advanced maintenance protocols and troubleshooting procedures for all energy systems.

  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities, government bodies, and community stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and compliance.

  • Assist in the preparation of detailed technical reports, design documents, and project proposals, presenting findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies, integrating cutting-edge solutions into project designs and operations.

  • Conduct technical training sessions for staff, end users and community members to enhance their understanding and capacity in renewable energy technologies.

  • Support the development of technical tenders and proposals to support fundraising for CEM

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. Those with

  • MERA license is required. If not holding MERA license, the candidate should be working towards getting MERA license.

  • Sound knowledge of Malawi Energy Laws, regulations, policies, standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on technical project initiation, deployment, management and operations.

  • Proven and demonstratable experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in complex technical environments.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
