The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Technical Coordinator – Education for Ntcheu under Programme Operations (NORAD Framework Agreement). The Technical Coordinator – Education will report to the Senior Programme Manager-NORAD Framework with dotted line to the Senior Technical Advisor Education and Child Development. The coordinator will be responsible for providing effective technical guidance and support to partners and supporting teachers and other education staff from partner organizations focusing foundational learning competencies, teacher professional development, inclusive education and protecting children in and around school. Using of SCI’s four main common approaches namely Literacy Boost, Numeracy Boost, Enabling Teachers, and Safe Schools for children in and outside schools, s/he will be responsible for building capacity of partners, school structures including empowering children and ensuring their active participation in decision making. The role holder will also be tasked to support the education Cluster members and providing technical guidance. In emergencies the role holder will be responsible for ensuring that Education in Emergencies interventions are designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated based on the INEE standards.

S/he will work closely with Partner Education Technical Coordinators and other Programme team members from other SCI projects in the district ensuring integration and complementarity of interventions for maximum impact. H/she will support the setup and launch, implementation and transitioning to government ownership of the NORAD funded program in Balaka and Mchinji. The holder will be responsible for effective monitoring of partner budget management and utilization as well as quality internal and donor reporting to ensure financial prudence, transparency, and accountability S/he will also support the project team with advocacy and influencing, while driving strategic partnerships for new business development.

In case of emergencies or humanitarian situation, the position holder will be required to support in response as assigned by the Country Office and will be required to work outside the normal profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

In order to be successful you will bring/have: 

  1. Minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in Education or a related field
  2. At least five years’ experience in implementing education programs and development and management of formal and non-formal education programs with firm grounding in community mobilization and capacity building for local organisations for basic and non-formal education in Malawi. Those with Early Grade Reading programs experience will have an added advantage.
  3. In-depth knowledge of government and non-government actors and frameworks essential.
  4. Practical experience working within MOE as well as practical experience in working in schools preferred.
  5.  Ability to interact skillfully and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders, both domestically and internationally.
  6. Ability to deliver effective training, using feedback to support the continuous improvement of training and training materials.
  7. Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform.
  8. Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic reports that document program direction and results.
  9. Ability to build, lead, and effectively mentor and supervise multi-talented teams.
  10. Experience initiating programs at community and school level and interacting with various community and district structures.
  11. Ability to represent and negotiate persuasively and diplomatically with multiple and varied government and community stakeholders.
  12. Ability to develop program briefs for program advocacy and fundraising.
