The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Technical Coordinator – Child Rights Governance (CRG) for Ntcheu under Programme Operations (NORAD Framework Agreement). The Technical Coordinator – CRG will, under the general supervision of the Senior Programme Manager, be responsible for providing technical support and guidance in the implementation of CRG component of the NORAD Framework Agreement (2024 – 2028). The post-holder will be providing technical support to the programme’s partners in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of interventions on Child Rights Governance as well as on cross-cutting issues of the programme. As such, the post holder will work closely with other thematic leads for the programme. She/he provides technical support in the promotion of the Rights of the Child in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) through co-operation with local and national organizations, institutions, authorities and international organizations.

 

She/he will have the responsibility of supporting partners in strengthening the government system (policies, structures, and institutions) to be accountable, responsive, inclusive, and transparent in respecting, protecting, and fulfilling the rights of all boys and girls including those with disabilities and impacted by inequality and discrimination. This will be guided by three outcome areas of the CRG component: i) Strengthened inclusive children’s participation at community, district and national levels to inform decision making on key child rights issues; ii) State compliance with child rights international, regional and domestic obligations including on Public Investment in Children improved; iii) Increased responsiveness and accountability of the private sector in advancing and promoting child rights.

 

With technical support from the Senior Technical Adviser (STA) for Child Rights Governance, the post holder will also steer the implementation and effective delivery of the common approaches in Save the children as well as support with national advocacy and influencing, while driving strategic partnerships for new business development and cross sharing of lessons with other programs/teams and partners.

In case of emergencies or humanitarian situation, the position holder will be required to support in response as assigned by the Country Office and will be required to work outside the normal profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

In order to be successful you will bring/have: 

  1. Education at least up to degree in Social Sciences/Social Work and Social Administration/ Development Studies/Child Rights/Legal Studies/Economic or any relevant field experiences.
  2. Extensive and substantive relevant practical experience may be considered.
  3. At least f (5) years’ experience in programming for child rights and child protection.
  4. At least three (3) years’ experience working with and grass roots organizations and/or local NGOs with experience building the capacity of local organizations).
  5. Management experience in a coordination role at national level.
  6. A commitment to children’s rights and an ability to provide leadership in this area.
  7. Significant demonstrable experience in providing high quality technical advice in CRG programs for children.
  8. Experience in managing significant grants, preferably child rights related ones.
  9. Experience of working effectively with partner organizations.
  10. Demonstrable competence in training, monitoring and evaluation, policy review and formulation, proposal and report writing.
  11. Experience of community participation, ownership and empowerment.
  12. Experience in remote monitoring and evaluation.
  13. High level of integrity.
  14. Fluency in written and spoken English.
  15. Resource Management, Training and capacity building, Coaching / Mentoring Skills.
