Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks the following long-term positions for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Student Assessment Specialist

Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks a Student Assessment Specialist for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of Malawi’s lower primary students.

This is a long-term position that will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Responsibilities include:

•    Supports planning and administration activities for the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA).

•    Develops, pilots, and analyzes the universally accessible assessment tools to monitor student progress in reading and writing acquisition

•    Works with technical team to use assessment results to adapt the project’s assessment model as needed.

•    Works with Senior MEL Specialist and Data Lead to strengthen assessment systems in early grade reading.

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in education, monitoring and evaluation, or relevant area. Familiarity with scientifically based reading research preferred.

•    At least 6 years’ experience in assessment or educational research

•    Able to measure basic foundational skills for literacy in the early grades.

•    Proven experience building relationships and facilitating learning about how to improve project work preferred.

•    Experience with a USAID-funded project preferred

•    Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

•    Written and spoken proficiency in English and Chichewa required.
