Background

Based on its operational requirements, Malawi Fertilizer Company wishes to recruit suitably qualified persons to fill the following existing vacancy which is tenable at its Malawi Fertilizer Company in Liwonde.

 

STORES MANAGER

Position Purpose

To efficiently manage inventory and stores operations by overseeing material handling, stock control, and timely supply to production while optimising storage space, coordinating supply chain activities, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

 

Main duties

  • Manages inventory levels effectively to ensure optimal stock availability and prevent stockouts or excess inventory.
  • Performs regular stock reconciliation to maintain inventory accuracy and minimise discrepancies.
  • Implements systematic documentation procedures for stock transactions, receipts, and issues to maintain accurate stock records.
  • Monitors plant inventory levels to align stock availability with production and operational needs.
  • Optimises resource utilisation by analysing material usage trends and estimating resource requirements.
  • Manages stores operations across multiple inventory categories, including bags, technical spares, general stores, fuel, lubricants, and PPE.
  • Optimises storage space utilisation through effective layout planning and inventory organisation.
  • Ensures material availability by streamlining procurement, storage, and distribution processes.
  • Maintains stores organisation to enable efficient material retrieval and reduce delays in production.
  • Manages technical spares inventory to ensure availability, timely requisition processing, and quality compliance for seamless operations and maintenance.
  • Manages bag inventory to ensure continuous supply, processes requisitions efficiently, and maintains quality standards through inspection and compliance Manages general inventory levels to ensure availability, processes requisitions to support operations, and maintains organisation and efficiency in store activities.
  • Monitors fuel consumption for efficiency and cost control, processes requisitions to ensure supply continuity, and upholds safety standards in storage and handling.
  • Ensures sufficient PPE inventory, processes requisitions in compliance with safety regulations, and maintains quality standards for employee protection and regulatory adherence.
  • Manages cleaning supplies to uphold hygiene standards and oversees gardening resources to maintain a clean and organised work environment.
  • Plans material requirements to align with production schedules, ensures timely availability through procurement coordination, and optimises staging areas for workflow efficiency.
  • Measures raw materials for accuracy in blending and granulation, and stages finished products for efficient dispatch.
  • Packages blended and granulated products per quality standards, tests raw material quality for consistency, and selects material samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintains production records for tracking usage and performance, follows preventive maintenance schedules, replaces worn parts to prevent downtime, and manages spare parts inventory to support continuous operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory requirements and Meridian Group security policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the upkeep the EHSS (Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability) policies and procedures.
  • Implement safety protocols by conducting safety assessments, providing training, and monitoring compliance.
  • Manage environmental impact by monitoring emissions control, waste disposal and ensuring compliance.
  • Promote occupational health by conducting health screenings, maintaining health records and providing health education.
  • Implements compliance requirements to maintain safety, hygiene, and environmental standards in storage areas.
  • Ensure that the individual performance management discussions are completed within the policy guidelines, recorded and followed through on personal development areas.
  • Maintain a positive work climate and culture to energise employees, give meaning to work, minimise work disruption and maximise employee productivity.

 

Desirable Qualifications, Work experience and Personal Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement/Supply chain management or related.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a busy industrial environment
  • Must be a registered member with Malawi Institute of procurement and supply (MIPS).
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
