Background

ASWiM is a legally registered by Malawi Government in May 2019 with the aim to promote the advancement and protection of the social work profession by focusing on both social workers and service users. Guided by the constitution, the Association has a National Executive Committee (NEC), a Secretariat and a Board of Trustees. It also has chapters in the Northern, Southern, Central and Eastern regions of Malawi, with membership comprising of both students and practicing social workers from both public and private sector. It also works with other partners such as Project Hope Namibia and government Ministries.

Project Hope Namibia-Malawi (PHN-MA) with Funding from USAID is implementing a project called Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA). ASWiM is a sub guarantee (Partner) in the Project. This agreement is aimed at providing funding to ASWiM to strength social service workforce in Malawi. Therefore, with this Funding from PHN-MA, ASWiM is inviting applications from qualified and well experienced Malawians to fill the following vacant positions:

Social Work Specialist

Position: Social Work Specialist

Nature of contract: Permanent

Duty Station: ASWiM Office, Lilongwe

Reporting to: ASWiM President

 

Key Responsibilities:

The post holder will be required to perform the following key roles and tasks

  1. Case work

  • Working with case workers, mentors and social workers to deliver effective social work and case management

  • Ensuring that standards are being followed during the trainings of professionals and para professionals leading to certification by ASWiM and Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, ANAPA and all concerned stakeholders.

  • Recommending curriculums and suitable rations for training and come up with reviews

  • Interpret and apply statutes, rules, regulations, municipal codes, and other procedures
  • Assisting adults and/or children with developmental disabilities.
  • Providing physical and psychosocial care to clients.
  • Providing information to clients on social service programs.
  • Interviewing clients and assembling information to determine eligibility for services.
  1. Planning
  • Ability to generate a plan and submit the same to ASWiM for approval before sharing with ANAPA – PHN
  • Helping to plan and conduct special events, services and programs, such as trainings, health screenings, mentoring, tutoring or drug prevention programs, public safety, and crime prevention
  • Ensuring quality and standards is always adhered to during selection and training of various cadres
  • Planning the scheduling and execution of various activities
  1. Budgeting
  • Ensuring that all the programmes, activities are executed in line with USAID standards and recommendations
  • Ability to use various budgeting and costing tools as specified by USAID and ASWiM
  1. Monitoring
  • Monitoring the day to today implementation of activities and report according to the available templates and procedures.

Others skills required: Knowledge in social work trends globally and regionally, laws and policies governing social work, professionalization of the social work agenda , Case management, capacity building of social work cadres, ability to work with government of Malawi, working with USAID, result oriented.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the position should possess a Bachelor of Social Work or related social science qualification with ten (10) years practical experience and those with a Master’s Degree and three (3) years’ experience will have an added advantage.
