Partners in Health (PIH) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH has programs in Haiti, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kazakhstan and Boston.

PIH began working in Malawi in 2007, where today we support the Ministry of Health (MOH) to serve a catchment area of 165,000 through 12 health centers and two hospitals in partnership with our sister organizations. Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) is in Neno District.

We therefore seek to recruit suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following position:

Position : Social Media Officer

Reports to : Communications Specialist

Commitment : Full Time (Monday-Friday)

Working Hours : Regular Office Hours (40Hrs/Week)

Location : Neno Boma

Position Overview

The Social media officer leads execution and analysis of digital campaigns across social platforms, serving as the primary communicator with APZU social media followers. Reporting to the Communications Specialist, the Social Media Officer will lead the teams production of digital campaign-based content to meet organizational goals using compelling and consistent storytelling. Through collaboration with internal and external partners, the Social Media Officer will follow analytics and emerging trends to expand APZU’s reach on digital platforms and cultivate potential new donors.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead in implementing a social media strategy including social media campaigns in support of fundraising, acquisition, and awareness goals
  • Develop a social media plan
  • Manage APZU social media pages and website
  • In collaboration with content writer, produce content for social media updates and website
  • Measure and report on relevant KPIs across digital campaigns
  • Establish PIH’s social media voice to communicate brand and campaign messages, including identifying trending topics and leading development of social-only campaigns
  • Orient staff in social media management
  • Attend bi-weekly global communication meetings and represent APZU Malawi communication team where necessary
  • Provide editorial skills on documents to be uploaded on social media and/or website
  • Produce monthly social media reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in journalism, communications or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing social and digital campaigns and communications.
  • Strong writing background including experience writing copy for a variety of digital platforms
  • Strong experience in social media management tools
  • Strong understanding of social media and digital analytics
  • Interest and knowledge of new and emerging social and digital industry trends
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within deadlines.
  • Interest and knowledge of new and emerging design trends and best practices
  • Interest to learn new skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments
  • Knowledge/interest in global health is a plus
  • A commitment to social justice
