The Malaria Alert (entre (MAC) is a research unit under the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences that works with Ministry of health, local and international health agencies to address priority health problems in Malawi and the SADC region through operational and evidence synthesis research, capacity bulling and training, health care systems strengthening, disease surveillance, and monitoring and impact evaluation in communicable disease including malaria, HIV, vaccine preventable diseases and Neglected tropical diseases.

MAC is inviting applications from suitably qualified and enthusiastic individuals to fill the position of Social Innovation Project Manager.

 

 

Position Summary

The individual will manage the Social Imovation Hub, which is based at the Malaria Alert Centre n Blantyre. The Social Innovation Hub was set up by the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) in conjunction with the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (http://socialinnovationinhealth.org) and World Health Organization. It is dedicated to an inclusive and needs driven innovation in healthcare delivery in Malawi. The Hub’s work supports the identification of local health innovations, research on effectiveness and scalability of innovations and advocacy on viable innovations.

Duration of Contract

The initial contract will be for one (1) year and renewable subject to performance.

Key responsibilities

The Project Manager’s role and responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Identification of new healthcare innovations, conduct Case studies on existing innovations and support researchers interested in working with innovators to collect data that will inform policy in scaling up effective innovations.
  • Community mobilization: Engage local communities, innovators and stakeholders in advocating for effective innovations
  • Teaching: Deliver educational workshops on social innovation in health for students or stakeholders
  • Hub development: support the development of KUHeS Social Innovation Hub and lead in the identification of new opportunities/collaborations to grow the hub.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Applicants must have an appropriate postgraduate qualification, preferably a Master’s degree such as MPH, MBA or other relevant qualification PLUS qualifications in project management.
  • Experience working with stakeholders within the Ministry of Health, NGOs, international implementing partners and the donor community.
  • Experience in qualitative research methodology and data analysis.

Remuneration

The position will attract a salary with benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications as applicable to contract staff in the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. KUHES is an equal opportunity employer.
