National Water Resources Authority (NWRA)

The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) is a statutory organization established by the Water Resources Act of 2013 with a specific function to regulate and manage water resources.

Furthermore, the NWRA seeks to ensure the sustainable use of water resources and address the water resources planning, development, and management challenges. In its effort to sustainably manage water resources, the NWRA seeks to recruit members of staff. In this regard, NWRA invites applications from suitably, qualified, and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position:

Job title: Senior Water Quality Officer (Chemistry)

Department: Water Resource Management and Development

Grade: NW 4

Reporting to: Water Quality Manager

Responsible for: Water Quality Officer (Chemistry)

Purpose of the Job

To ensure water quality in national water sources

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervise water quality monitoring at the water source
  2. Supervising and appraising junior staff
  3. Collecting and analyzing water samples.
  4. Carrying out monitoring of pollution in the catchment as well as carrying out periodic inspection of pollution in the Lake Malawi and all other water sources and recommending and implementing appropriate action to reduce pollution.
  5. Assisting in planning and budgeting for the Division
  6. Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  7. Monitoring daily laboratory water test results.
  8. Ensuring proper care of all instrumentation in the laboratory and reporting for replacement or repair any defects of same.
  9. Ensuring adequate stock of reagents and apparatus in laboratories
  10. Submitting reports on all activities
  11. Perform any other relevant and lawful duties assigned to do from time to time.

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a field of water quality management or chemistry.

  • Self-starter, responsible and good communication skills
  • A team player and able to organise and manage staff.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Planning and coordination skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer knowledge in MS packages
  • Able to work long hours with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrable leadership and organization skills
