A. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) was established under the Energy Regulation Act No 20 of 2004 with the mandate to regulate the energy sector in Malawi in a fair, transparent, efficient and cost-effective manner for the benefit of consumers and operators.
An opportunity has arisen to engage qualified persons of Malawian origin to fill positions of Human Resource and Administration Manager, Senior Renewable Energy Regulation Specialist, Senior Fuels Regulation Specialist, Economic Regulation Specialist, Procurement Officer and Assistant Procurement Officer tenable at MERA Head Office in Lilongwe. Management therefore invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the six
(6) positions on permanent basis.

B. POSITIONS
Post: SENIOR RENEWABLE ENERGY REGULATION SPECIALIST
Grade: M4
Reporting to: Director of Electricity and Renewable
Responsible for: Renewable Regulation Specialists
Purpose of the Job
To ensure adherence to safety environmental and quality standards in the supply of renewable energy as set by the Authority.
Key Duties
a. Developing technical specifications and statistically based quality monitoring system for renewable energy relating to performance indicators, safety, environmental and quality for the existing and potential investors.
b. Processing new applications and renewals for renewable energy licenses
c. Leading teams in conducting regulatory inspections to assess compliance with set renewable energy regulations and standards.
d. Investigating accidents, incidents and complaints related to renewable energy.
e. Compiling renewable energy inspection and investigation reports.
f. Recommending for approval new and renewal of facilities proposed by licensees.
g. Developing procedure manuals for generation, transmission, distribution installation, supply and maintenance of renewable energy and ensure stakeholders education and general public awareness.
h. Liaising with Government and other stakeholders and representing the Authority on technical matters relating to renewable energy.
i. Allocating and supervising the work of the Renewable Energy Regulation Specialists.
Minimum Education Qualification and Experience
a. Bachelor’s degree in Renewable energy and a Master’s degree in Renewable Energy.
b. Have at least four (4) years’ experience at middle management level in the energy sector preferably in a busy and reputable institution.
c. Demonstrate thorough technical knowledge of the energy sector.
Membership with any relevant professional body will be an added advantage.
