The Opportunity 

Save the Children has raised the profile of advocacy, communication, campaign and media in the new global 2022-2024 strategic plan to achieve results for children. Through advocacy and campaigns with and for children, we aim to remove barriers that prevent children from surviving, learning and being protected so that every child can reach their full potential. We advocate for government to take the necessary action needed to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, for the realisation of all children’s rights set in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, so that no child is left behind.

In line with the Country Office’s Strategic Plan, the Senior ACCM Manager will support the implementation of Save the Children Malawi’s ACCM strategy to advance Save the Children’s policy positions and influence decision-makers, both at national and international levels to shape and implement Save the Children’s efforts to influence and bring about change in awareness, attitudes, behaviour and policies  for lasting changes to full fill children’s rights in Malawi. The position is will help strengthen business partnership and linkages between ACCM, Operations, Program Development and Quality (PDQ) internally, and with relevant partners externally to build advocacy capacity and ownership among staff through linkages between evidence generation, advocacy, campaign, communications and media work. It will also strengthen team work around the ACCM structure for enhanced coordination, and delivery of ACCM interventions; help transform mind-set of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and partners to approach ACCM as mainstream programmatic intervention.

This role is for a period of twelve (12) months with a possibility of extension.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

Education

Master’s Degree in Mass Media, Journalism, Communication or any other related field

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • 8 year relevant experience in coordinating, managing and leading Advocacy, Communication, Campaign and Media operation
  • Relevant training the related discipline
  • Training and experience in child rights in general and child right programming in particular
  • Senior experience (Minimum 8 years of experience) in planning and implementing successful ACCM work.
  • Clear understanding of the range of possible ACCM tools available to influence key targets, and their applicability in the Malawi context.
  • Proven experience of external representation and direct lobbying of high-level targets.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into concise and compelling policy briefing notes and advocacy documents.
  • Proven experience in developing and rolling out ACCM messages, strategy, guidelines, plans etc.
  • Demonstrate skills and competencies in producing high level ACCM materials and documents
  • Proven experience of using media for advocacy purposes.
  • Ability to coordinate and work with diverse groups of people based in multiple locations.
  • Good personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Information Communication Technology skills including graphic design
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children International’s aims, values and principles.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to deliver work on time
