The Office of the Ombudsman is a public body established under the Republic of Malawi Constitution. Section 123 of the Constitution accords the Office of the Ombudsman the mandate to investigate any and all cases where it is alleged that a person or a group of persons have suffered an injustice and there appears to be no any remedy reasonably available by way of appeal from court or where there is no other practicable remedy.

The Office of the Ombudsman is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions:

Job Title : Senior Accounts Assistant

Grade : OMB10

Responsible to : Assistant Accountant (Grade OMB9)

Duty Station : Zomba/Balaka and Mzuzu

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Facilitating cash books and other books of accounts;

Capturing financial data to appropriate accounts in an automated accounting system;
• Preparing and reviewing budgets;
Preparing bank reconciliation Statements and control accounts reconciliations
Keeping and issues accountable documents;
• Filing accounting documents;
Preparing and remitting taxes and other statutory and regulatory deductions;
• Making bank deposits and withdrawals;
Preparing and recording daily payment voucher list and cheques;
• Administering signing in the dispatch register by beneficiaries;

Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time; and
Disbursing cash.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must in possession of a certificate in Accounting or Finance obtained from an
accredited institution with not less than three (3) years working experience

Skills/Personal attributes

  • Be of high integrity
  • Team builder and ability to work without supervision
  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office (word, excel, access) and other related packages
  • Knowledge of government accounting procedures
