Job Description

Introduction 

The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Research Programme (MLW) (http://www.mlw.mw) is an internationally recognised centre for research and research training, affiliated to the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). MLW has 2 aims, to conduct excellent research to benefit health and train the next generation of researchers and leaders. Our Blantyre-based offices located within the vicinity of the largest hospital in Malawi, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) provide for the optimum research environment.

Job Summary 

A Security Supervisor is required to effectively implement MLW security measures including safety precautions to ensure that organizational assets are properly protected in all its premises. Facilitate the duties and tasks of security guards and monitor their performance to make sure that everyone fulfils their daily job requirements to meet security demands.

 

Responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participate and support senior security officer in the drafting of relevant security guidelines
  2. Assist Senior Security Officer in the implementation of security measures according to organizational set standards in liaison with all security staff
  3. Prepare monthly duty roster for security section and ensure that the number of working days, day and night duties and off days are evenly distributed among all staff
  4. Assist senior security officer in monitoring performance of security staff to ensure they conduct in a professional manner and consistent with security guidelines
  5. Assist security staff to conform to code of conduct and effectively protect MLW assets
  6. Ensure that all staff, students, visitors and contractors are adhering to security practices, and report to senior security officer of any challenge being encountered
  7. Conduct regular inspection of all security registers to ensure that they are good and that all security and maintenance incidents are properly recorded
  8. Monitor that all gate pass documents (including stores papers) relating to items being taken out of MLW premises are requested, received and correctly filed in all entry/exit points
  9. Inspect visitors book to verify if all necessary information is being recorded by guards on duty and ensure that all visitors cards issued and retrieved are well balanced on daily basis
  10. Complete checklist forms by verifying the status quo of the items listed therein to validate their functionality and submit to senior security officer for endorsement.
  11. Conduct patrols around the premises to identify weak points, check all fixed items are in place and ensure that vehicles and building/office doors, windows are appropriately locked and secured
  12. Remain vigilant at all times to ensure that no security threat bypasses security check points and compromise safety of MLW employees and security of properties
  13. Check Generator fuel, lab equipment including freezer and air conditioner’s temperatures and take necessary action as trained.
  14. Assist senior security officer and security team in the implementation of health and safety measures from time to time and ensure adherence by all persons

 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

(a)       Education: Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and Certificate in any security related field

(b)       Experience: Two (2) years in a supervisory role or Five (5) years within security industry coupled with other security trainings
