The Tobacco Commission

The Tobacco Commission (TC) was established by an Act of Parliament under the Tobacco Industry
Act No. 5 of 2024. The Commission is responsible for the provision of regulatory services, promotion
and development of the Tobacco industry in Malawi. In order to efficiently and effectively execute
its mandate, the Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the
following existing vacant post as follows:

JOB TITLE: Security Officer

LOCATION: Head Office, Kanengo in Lilongwe
REPORTING TO: Human Resource & Office Services Manager.


The Security Officer shall be responsible for supervising and ensuring effective coordination of
security needs of the Commission.He or she is therefore expected to perform the following duties:


a) Advise Management on security advancement in line with the Commission’s requirements;
b) Liaise with security organizations on illegal cross border trade in tobacco;
c) Supervise all Security corporals in the performance of their duties;
d) Advise Management on the security of confiscated tobacco consignments;
e) Ensure the security of all Commission’s premises and property at all times;
f) Maintain security detail including duty roster for all security personnel;
g) Submit to Management leave plans for all security personnel for planning purposes;
h) Prepare brief and monthly reports including ad hoc reports for Management on a regular basis;
i) Perform safety checks/audits and take steps to correct theft by staff;
j) Any other duties relevant to the post.


The desired candidate must possess at least Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent,
coupled with at least 10 years military or police training. Any higher level of education will be an
added advantage.

d) Investigative skills and a keen eye for details;
e) Quick to respond to issues;
f) Ability to motivate subordinates;
g) Ability to work at odd hours depending on job requirements.
