CARE Malawi has secured funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, locally titled ‘Tiwoloka’. The funding runs from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2029. CARE Malawi will implement the project in partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationists in
Malawi (FAWEMA) and Water Aid.
Therefore, CARE Malawi seeks to recruit well qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions within its USDA funded McGovern dole Food for Education program i.e. Tiwoloka Project in Malawi:
SCHOOL FEEDING FIELD OFFICER (9)
Position Description
The School Feeding Field Officer will responsible for managing school
feeding initiatives to ensure students receive nutritious meals that support
their education and well-being. The SFFO is responsible for facilitating
the completion of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with schools
and coordinating food distribution, including to Pregnant and Lactating
Women (PLW).
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborate with government entities, School Management
Committee, and community stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness. - Foster liaison with community level suppliers for the timely
procurement of food items. - Identify local farmer groups and link them with purchasers for the local SFP Conduct market price assessment in the local markets or local shops every quarter
- Identify individuals active in the community such as Community Development Agents (CDA), produce aggregators or cooperatives
and work with them to improve marketing opportunities for farmer groups to the SFP - Sensitize, Orient and support school staff, PTA, MGs, Cooks and SMC on school feeding best practices, operational modalities, principals, donor compliance, reporting system and nutritional guidelines
including WASH and Gender. - Organize workshops and training sessions to strengthen stakeholders’ capacities.
- Promote nutritional education among students, teachers, and parents to enhance awareness of healthy eating practices.
- Ensure adherence to program guidelines, standards, and best
practices in the school feeding program (SFP). - Implement monitoring tools to assess the impact and efficiency of the program.
- Conduct regular field visits to schools to monitor compliance and quality of SFP implementation.
- Assess reasons for inactive SFP activities and report findings.
- Monitor food preparation, use of local fresh products, sufficient protein content, and storage practices, providing suggestions for improvement.
- Collect, analyze, and report on program data related to school
feeding. - Prepare periodic reports for CARE internal, GoM and stakeholders, highlighting achievements and challenges.
- Assist School feeding school committee members in accurate reporting.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 3 years worked experience in logistics, health promotion, water and sanitation, community development, agriculture or on SFP implementation.
- Good communication skills in Local language with English an advantage.
- Ability to fill in forms and write reports and make accurate calculations.
- Previous experience working with district government, Community groups/leader or school administrators is an advantage.
