Overview

SALES AND MARKETING MANAGER 

Umodzi Holdings Limited (UHL) was incorporated under Companies Act on 18th May 2012. UHL is 100% owned by the Government of the Republic of Malawi. UHL is currently managed as a highly prestigious domestic brand under the name ‘Umodzi Park Resorts’ (UP)and has the following properties at the heart of Malawi’s Capital City of Lilongwe which form part of its business establishment:

  • Umodzi Park which comprises the magnificent Bing International Convention Centre (BICC), Banqueting Hall, a 5-star hotel comprising 130 rooms with Presidential suites; and
  • The Presidential Village comprising 14 world class presidential villas which offer unique accommodation and office facilities.

Strategic governance of the company is overseen by a non-executive Board of Directors composed mostly of professionals from both the public and private sectors. The Government appoints the Board of Directors who ensure the company contributes to the national development goals through the travel and tourism sector.

UHL seeks to urgently engage suitably qualified Malawians to fill the vacant position of Sales and Marketing Manager tenable in Lilongwe.

General Description of the Job

The Sales and Marketing Manager’s main role is to effectively manage the Sales and Marketing Department, formulate and implement the sales and marketing strategy in line with strategic Business Plan for Umodzi Holdings Limited.

  • Commercially focused, have the ability to analyse market data and be results driven:
  • Should have understanding of digital marketing including web analytics metrics and tools;
  • High level of customer focus and understanding;
  • Good Knowledge of Malawi’s Hospitality industry at large;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to complete assignments in a timely manner;
  • Ability to implement sales and marketing strategies both short and long term with competence in planning and producing accurate reports;
  • Ability to resolve conflicts or lead a marketing team;
  • Ambitious, creative and the ability to influence decisions;
  • Innovative, strategic thinker with good analytical skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Devise and implement the overall sales and marketing plan for UHL.
  • Develop and implement adverts, promotions, direct marketing, entertainment, public relations, relationship marketing and loyalty programme.
  • Ensure that UHL has a detailed calendar of events that is conceptualized and populated in detail 12 months in advance, taking cognizance of business trends and the needs of the different divisions i.e. hotel, food and beverage, conferencing and Presidential Villas.
  • Conduct regular market research, customer care analysis and provide marketing insights for Management to enable better decision making.
  • Ensure effective retention, activation of dormant current customers through relevant and appropriate offers and communication.
  • Compile and manage costs of the annual marketing budget.
  • Compile and submit required daily, weekly and month-end reports on marketing effectiveness.
  • Develop a market segmentation in order to apply the rates correctly.
  • Ensure that all client correspondence are tracked and recorded, including quotations and contracts.
  • Represent the hotel at consumer trade fairs, mall promotions and tourism events both at local and International level.

Qualification and Experience

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing/ Advanced diploma in Marketing/ Hospitality and tourism Management obtained from a reputable and recognised institution
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a busy Sales & Marketing management preferably in the hospitality Industry.
  • Be willing to travel as and when required.
  • Be able to work extended hours and over weekends and public holidays.
