Position: SACCO Manager

Location: Lilongwe

Reports to: The Chairperson of the Board of Directors

Job purpose

The position will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Society’s operations to ensure unparalleled customer service and sustainable business growth (in membership and financial base) as well as overall staff management. The position will also examine and prepare financial information,

records, and reports to enable the SACCO to run most efficiently and profitably, as well as undertake financial reporting to all stakeholders as required. The position will also manage administration and human resources-related aspects for the SACCO.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and formulating policies, procedures, and practices for SACCO

  • operations.

  • Directing and supervising the administration and processing of loans.

  • Check daily postings and transactions and verify cash on hand.

  • Ensuring effective management and use of financial resources and assets.

  • Ensuring timely preparation and submission of accurate financial reports to The Sacco’s Chairperson and other stakeholders.

  • Supervise all SACCO members of staff and work closely with the Credit Committee.

  • Ensure safe custody of SACCO cheques, cash, passbooks, and all controlled inventory and fixed assets.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and control loan disbursements and repayments to prevent defaults.

  • Monitor maintenance of the Cashbook and reconciliation of monthly statements, ledgers, and member accounts.

  • Ensuring that statutory and other contractual obligations are met on time.

  • Preparing and analyzing every quarter of the society’s business plans and budgets.

  • Coordinating external audit exercises and implementing recommendations set forth.

  • Representing the Society in business transactions and any other transactions authorized by the Board.

  • Attending board meetings and AGM in an advisory capacity and implementing the resolutions made.

  • Carrying out such other duties as prescribed in the By-Laws or directed by the Board.

Key Competences and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Banking, or Finance

  • Six years of relevant experience at the supervisory level preferably in the financial sector:

  • A team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and effectively on strict deadlines and in a multicultural setting.

  • Excellent knowledge of Financial Reporting Standards and computer applications.

  • Mature and able to make administrative decisions.

  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.

  • Sound independent judgment.

  • High-performance attitude, resilience, honesty, and high integrity.

  • Excellent Written and oral Communication Constructive Feedback; coaching and mentoring skills Leadership skills that include staff motivation.

  • Focused on improving efficiency without compromising members’ service and quality.

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Determination and the drive to work towards targets.

  • Good business sense and a professional manner

  • Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
