RISK, COLLECTIONS AND REHABILITATION OFFICERS
Sycamore Credit Limited is a Malawian-owned Micro Finance Company that provides loan products. Sycamore Credit Limited was incorporated in April 2018 with the Registrar of Companies and was licensed to operate as a microfinance company in August 2018 by the Reserve Bank of Malawi. The company is looking for a Risk, Collections, and Rehabilitation Officer.
JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Risk, Collections and Rehabilitation Supervisor. The role of a Risk, Collections, and Rehabilitation Officer is loan collection of nonperforming and written-off loans. Be committed to the vision, mission, values, and motivation of the organization and willingness to travel out of the office as the jobs require 80% of the time in the field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Risk Management: Monitor and assess credit risk across the institution’s loan portfolio; Conduct risk assessments and ensure adherence to credit policies and procedures; Identify potential risk exposures and recommend mitigation strategies; Contribute to the development and updating of risk management frameworks and tools; and Support internal audits and regulatory risk reporting.
2. Loan Collections: Track overdue loans and implement effective collection strategies; Coordinate follow-up with delinquent clients via field visits, phone calls, or formal letters; Work closely with branch staff to ensure timely loan repayment; Maintain accurate records of collections and client communications; Analyze trends in late payments and defaults to inform collection strategies.
3. Loan Rehabilitation: Develop rehabilitation plans for non-performing loans (NPLs); Engage clients in restructuring or rescheduling loan terms where necessary; Collaborate with legal teams or third parties on loan recovery processes, including collateral seizure where applicable; Recommend write-offs or provisions for irrecoverable loans in line with policy.
4. Reporting and Compliance: Prepare periodic reports on portfolio quality, collections performance, and risk indicators; Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and lender covenants; Maintain client confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all recovery actions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in any business-related practice from a recognized University or a higher institution of learning.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Experience in a microfinance institution and collection and recovery skills will be an added advantage
- Strong competency in using computers, especially Microsoft Office
- Strong understanding of credit operations, particularly lending methodologies and processes, credit, and risk management.
- Good and valuable customer relationship management skills
- Knowledge of the economy/markets where Sycamore Credit Ltd is operating
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong desire to work with the economically active and willing to help create wealth for Sycamore Credit Ltd customers
