RISK AND STRATEGY MANAGER
JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer and Chief Executive Officer with a dotted reporting line to the NICO Group Head of Risk, the ideal candidate will manage the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Risk function of NICO Asset Managers Limited. This includes ensuring the effective mitigation of significant risks in line with both NICO Asset Managers Limited and NICO Group strategies. Additionally, the candidate will play a key role in facilitating the development and documentation of strategic initiatives, while overseeing the strategic management process to ensure alignment with the broader business objectives of NICO Asset Managers Limited and the NICO Group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Risk Management
- Prepares annual Company Risk Strategy and Company Risk Plans that support NICO Asset Managers strategy for input by CEO/CFO and Group Head of Risk before Board Approval.
- Executes the company’s risk strategy and risk plans, ensuring effective implementation and alignment with organizational and NICO Group objectives.
- Develops and maintains the company’s risk control self-assessments and risk registers, ensuring they remain up to date through active engagement with all risk owners and functions within NICO Asset Managers.
- Conducts comprehensive root cause analyses to identify the underlying causes of problems and risk issues.
- Performing thorough analyses of all key risk events, findings are reported to the CEO/CFO and Group Head of Risk.
- Assess compliance with risk appetite statement on a quarterly basis and escalates all Risk appetite breaches to the CEO/CFO, Group Head of Risk and the Board
- Integrates existing, new, and updated ERM principles and capabilities across the company to foster a ‘culture of risk,’ promoting risk management awareness and ensuring consistent practices.
- Reports and presents the risk profile to Company Exco, the Group Head of Risk, the Board Finance and Audit Committee, and the Investment Committee, highlighting key risk indicators, ongoing risk management efforts, and recommendations for improvement.
- Undertakes project risk reviews and provides ongoing risk support through project steering committees to ensure successful closure of company key strategic projects.
- Coordinates the implementation of Business Continuity Plan (BCP) for the company.
- Ensuring that all material risk events are identified, evaluated, managed and proactively reported to the Board and other relevant stakeholders.
- Consolidation and submission of Risk Management reports to various stakeholders.
Strategy Management
- Facilitates the support of strategy formulation at company and functional business strategies by collaborating with cross-functional teams, providing risk insights, and ensuring strategic initiatives are aligned with risk management principles.
- Ensures that KPIs are designed to align with the company’s strategic objectives and risk management framework.
- Documents and consolidate the company’s strategy, ensuring it is well-structured and prepared for presentation to the Board for approval.
- Monitors and ensures the implementation of key strategic projects by conducting periodic reviews, verifying departmental execution, and establishing effective monitoring mechanisms and processes.
- Coordinates and manages relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, serving as the primary point of contact for all matters related to the company strategy.
Qualifications
- 5- 8 Years’ practical experience in a similar role (preferably within the financial services or investment sector)
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field (ACCA/CIMA/CFA/MBA/ Qualification or Risk Management certification wil be added advantage).
- Strong understanding of investment products and financial markets, and key stakeholder such as Malawi Stock Exchange, RBM, Stockbrokers and commercial banks.
