Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS)

The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is a comprehensive health and allied  sciences higher learning institution established with the primary function of training health workers  and conduct health research. The Health Economics and Policy Unit (HEPU) is a unit under the  Department of Health Systems and Policy within the School of Global and Public Health  (SOGAPH) at KUHeS which was established as a joint venture with the Malawi Ministry of Health.  The HEPU in collaboration with the University College London (UCL) and Kamuzu Central  Hospital (KCH), with support from Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) are  implementing Neotree, an open source digital learning health system (LHS) for postnatal new

born care, in Malawi. The HEPU, with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will conduct economic evaluation for implementing the Neotree in Malawi. The Neotree Project under  HEPU is therefore seeking a bright and enthusiastic Research Assistant to support the project  with data collection in Kasungu where the Neotree will be implemented.

Job Summary 

We are seeking a Research Assistant to assist with data collection and entry for the provider  perspective costing of the Neotree intervention. The successful candidate will work closely with  the Principal Investigator, Research Fellow and Collaborators from UCL and KCH to collect  primary data in health facilities where the Neotree is being implemented for the costing the  Intervention.

Responsibilities 

  

  • Facilitate curtesy calls with district health management team as well as those at primary  level in the district/s where data will be collected
  • Conduct interviews with health facility staff and stakeholders to gather information on  costs.
  • Collect costing data from health facilities where Neotree will be implemented. Collect  data on costs associated with:

o Personnel (salaries, training, etc.)

o Equipment and supplies (purchase, maintenance, etc.)

o Facility upgrades and renovations

o Training and capacity building

o Other relevant cost

  • Collect productivity loss data from caregivers of newborns enrolled in Neotree trial. • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and entry
  • Maintain organized and secure records of data collected
  • Work closely with the research team to ensure data collection aligns with study  objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervisor and research team on data collection  progress.
  • Any other research support duties assigned by the PI from time to time.

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Health Economics, Health Management or Public  Health,
  • Experience in data collection and management especially in health facility setting • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with health facility settings
  • Experience in costing data collection an advantage.
