With a staff of 597, we run schools, businesses, farms and a construction enterprise.

We are looking for a:

REGISTERED ARCHITECT

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the architectural design, coordination and management of various Beehive Construction projects from concept stage through to completion, and ensuring that projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Signing-off Architectural designs for submission to the relevant government authorities, for approval, and ensuring that formal permissions / approvals for each built project are received and documented, within the required timeframes
  • Ensuring that architectural design outputs are compliant with local building codes and laws
  • Working closely with Project Engineers, in both Malawi and the UK, to ensure that structural documents issued for use on-site are fully-coordinated with architectural intent
  • Working closely with the Construction Manager and Local Site Engineers in Malawi to review, check and assess structures and details being constructed on-site against issued design documents and specifications
  • Liaising with various design Consultants, in both Malawi and the UK, to ensure that the Client’s brief is achieved, in design-terms
  • Liaising with various external technical Consultants, in both Malawi and the UK, to ensure that building services are fully coordinated with architectural and engineering intent
  • Liaising with staff and sub-contractors working on-site to ensure that information issued and being built-from is correct and up-to-date
  • Assisting in preparing budgets and programmes for construction projects
  • Mentoring and training Architectural Assistants so that drawing production is efficiently and correctly delivered
  • Communicating regularly with the Directors and Funders in the UK, ensuring that they are aware of project design and construction progress

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Up-to-Date Registration with the Malawi Board of Architects
  • Member of the Malawi Institute of Architects
  • MSCE
  • Degree in Architecture (or similar)
  • Masters in Architecture (or similar)
  • Professional Architectural Examination certificate (or similar)
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience as a working Architect / Architectural Assistant in Malawi
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and processes in Malawi
  • Self-motivated and results orientated
  • Organised, reliable and punctual
  • Excellent management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Passion for social enterprise, and commitment to making a positive impact
