How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation seeks an Africa-based Biostatistician with experience in health-related research design, data management support, and statistical analysis to work as a key member of the EGPAF Research Team. Under the leadership of the Senior Director, Biostatistics and Research Data Management s/he will support the development of proposals and protocols for laboratory, clinical, and implementation research and rigorous program evaluations in EGPAF-supported countries.  This will include contribution to the study design, sample size determination, data collection methods, and data analysis plan. The biostatistician will be responsible for conducting the study analyses and contributing to the presentation/publication of study results.  The incumbent will work in close collaboration with the research, technical, and strategic information and evaluation teams in the US, Geneva, and country offices in the field.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?

  • Support HIV, TB and other emerging infectious diseases laboratory, clinical and implementation science research, surveillance, impact evaluation, and program evaluations
  • Collaborate with principal investigators in developing study methodology, sampling strategies, data collection and management, and statistical approaches for research proposals and protocols.
  • Advise data managers on procedures to oversee the collection of, cleaning, validation and maintenance of high-quality research data
  • Write and execute statistical methods and analysis sections of protocols, reports, and peer-reviewed publications;
  • Design templates and develop specifications for status reports, analysis tables, graphs, and data listings for use in research publications and ad hoc reporting
  • Participate in the implementation of research and data analysis capacity-building initiatives for country staff and partners
  • Provide training for less experienced employees engaged in the collection, tabulation and analysis of statistical research data

To be successful, you will have:

  •    PhD in Biostatistics with at least 3 years of experience. A Master’s degree in Biostatistics with significant experience (>6 years) in public health research design and data analysis may be considered.
  •   Experience with design and analysis of research in Africa is required, experience in HIV/AIDS and/or TB research, will be an advantage
  • Strong data management and statistical computing skills including Stata and/or SAS and/or R programming skills
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent English interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently as well as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally up to 30%

Bonus points if you have:

  •     French and/or Portuguese language skills a plus
