We are looking for a:
QUANTITY SURVEYOR
Background:
Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise is dedicated to transforming lives and communities through innovative and sustainable social enterprises. We create opportunities, foster entrepreneurship, and delivering impactful solutions to address the socio-economic challenges in Malawi. With a staff of 597, we run schools, businesses, farms and a construction enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and controlling budgets and spending for various Beehive construction projects
- Outputting detailed Bills of Quantities for new buildings, structures, landscaping and civil works being built at various Beehive locations, so as to ensure that sufficient funding is secured from the UK
- Preparing month-by-month project programmes for all Beehive construction projects
- Preparing month-by-month expenditure projections for all Beehive construction projects
- Reviewing and tracking project expenditures, and flagging-up when projected expenditures are not in-line with projections, so that budgets can be adjusted in a timely manner
- Communicating budgets and Department spending with funders and stakeholders in the UK
- Collaborating with senior members of the Construction Department management, to support the efficient running of various construction projects simultaneously
- Collaborating with senior members of the Procurement Team, Finance Team, Stores Team, and the external registered QS, to support management and control of spending and stock, for all construction projects
- Chairing weekly Construction Progress Meetings / Procurement Meetings, and overseeing that the content of the meetings is accurately communicated to the wider stakeholder team
- Contacting suppliers and manufacturers, both in Malawi and further-afield, in order to understand up-to-date rates for materials and goods, and overseeing the ordering and import of external goods, ensuring that the best value items are acquired, and the correct exemptions and waivers are awarded where relevant
- Reviewing built works in progress, in order to check that design and material specifications are being adhered to on site
- Advising the project design team on Value Engineering of designs
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- MSCE or its equivalent
- Diploma / Degree in Quantity Surveying
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in a Quantity Surveying role
- Strong understanding of construction and procurement methods and requirements in Malawi
- Self-motivated and results orientated
- Organised, reliable and punctual
- Excellent management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
- Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
- Passion for social enterprise, and commitment to making a positive impact
