Salima Sugar Company Limited (SSCL) is a limited liability Company incorporated in Malawi under the Companies Act with postal address P.O. Box 200, Lilongwe and Head Office at Matundu Mbulo Office Complex in Lilongwe.

SSCL is a subsidiary of Greenbelt Investments Holdings Limited.The Company’s business is
development of sugar plantations, production of sugar and its by-products for the Malawi and export markets.

The Company is now looking for dynamic and well versed individuals to fill the following positions:

Job Title: Public Relations Officer

Location: Lilongwe
Reporting to: Chief Executive

The Post

A Public Relations (PR) Officer manages external communication to maintain a positive public image, crafting and executing PR strategies, building media relationships, and handling crises.

Core Responsibilities:

Public Image Management:

  • Develop and implement PR strategies to shape and maintain a positive public image for an organization or client.
  • Assess and monitor public perception and media coverage.
  • Anticipate and manage potential crises that could damage reputation.

Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists.
  • Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other content for news outlets.
  • Organize press conferences, interviews, and other media events.
  • Respond to media inquiries and requests for information.

Content Creation and Communication:

  • Develop and produce a variety of communication materials, including website content, social media posts, brochures, and presentations.
  • Craft and edit speeches, policy statements, and other written materials.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.

Event Planning and Management:

  • Plan and organize events, such as press conferences, product launches, and community outreach activities.
  • Manage event logistics, including venue selection, guest lists, and media coverage.

Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct market research to identify opportunities and challenges.
  • Analyze media coverage and track public sentiment.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activities.

Crisis Management:

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans.
  • Respond to negative publicity and manage reputational damage.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from accredited University coupled with five years’ experience in a busy office.
