Malawi Gaming Board/National Lotteries Board (MGB/N LB) is a parastatal body responsible for regulating the gaming and lotteries industry in Malawi.

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (GRADE MGB 4)

Position Summary

The Public Relations Officer will report to the Chief Executive Officer and shall be responsible for all communications, public relations, and public affairs in the organization. He/she shall provide support in carrying out awareness and public relations programs for the organization. He/she shall ensure business continuity at all times and align the business with statutory and regulatory requirements.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare a communications and marketing strategy for the organization;
  • Prepare plans and budgets for Public Relations (PR) activities
  • Coordinate social media management
  • Create innovative and engaging public relations and media campaigns;
  • Collaborate with other directorates to create promotional content and provide updates to the ICT section for the organization’s website;
  • Write, edit and review all media content and press releases;
  • Maintain good relationships with media houses and stakeholders;
  • Organize PR activations to promote the organization’s image and serve as the spokesperson;
  • Keep up with media and audience opinions regularly;
  • Study PR trends and use best practices to foster meaningful relationships;
  • Regularly submit PR reports;
  • Handle any PR issues at may arise; Coordinate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and projects; and
  • Perform any other relevant and lawful duties as may be reasonably assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Hands-on experience in creating innovative campaigns to engage with the public and media
  • Ability to learn on the job regarding the best practices in public relations
  • Excellent writing, oral presentation and communication skills
  • Matured and team player
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism or related field from an accredited University
  • Proficient computer skills especially Microsoft Office
  • Prior experience with media or public relations, PR campaigns and media management with at least 4 years proven work experience
