Job Title : Public Relations & Consumer Affairs Manager

Grade : GBA 3

Reporting to : Chief Executive Officer

Responsible for : Public Relations and Consumer Affairs Officer

Job Location : Lilongwe

Purpose

Shall be responsible for providing technical, operational and administrative backstopping on corporate planning and communication to raise the profile of the Greenbelt Authority (GBA) by building and enhancing its image and reputation.

Main Duties

  • Planning and directing public relations programs designed to create and maintain favorable public image for the organization;
  • Preparing press releases, keynote speeches and other related information for the Directorate, Chairperson of the GBA Board of Directors, Government officials, and other relevant authorities in liaison with the CEO and other Heads of Departments.
  • Editing and updating project documentation and publications brochures, videos, social media posts, etc.
  • Leading I organizing PR events, open days, press conferences and arranging press interviews and other forms of contact;
  • Developing Public Relations campaigns and maintaining media relations with various stakeholders in collaboration with the marketing team and senior management;
  • Seeking opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and trainings for the organization;
  • Addressing inquiries from the media and other parties, tracking media coverage and following industry trends;
  • Continually monitoring and analyzing all groundbreaking news items on GBA its related activities on the international and local scene.
  • Carrying out any other relevant assignments of the Authority as directed from time to time.
  • Facilitate implementation of the GBA Corporate Communication Strategy including its standardization and quality assurance.

Qualification and Experience

A Master’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Mass Communications, or relevant qualification with a minimum of Five (5) years proven experience in public relations at a senior level in a busy corporate environment.

  • An effective team player with a desire to understand GBA’s plans and operational areas.
  • Must possess expertise in message development and materials production, design and formatting.
  • Must have experience in editing corporate documents and news items and have the ability to develop press releases.
  • Conscientious, thorough, systematic person with a high level of integrity.
  • Open minded, diplomatic person with excellent communication as well as interpersonal skills, able to assimilate information quickly and accurately.
  • Must be proficient in standard computer applications.
