We are looking for a candidate to fill the position of Public Health Engineer Assistant to support Oxfam humanitarian response in Mangochi Office

 

DIMENSIONS:

  • The PHE assistant will be responsible for supervising the overall Water and sanitation activities implemented by Oxfam and will be reporting to Public Health Engineer Officer.
  • Provide technical support and advice to communities/partners where Oxfam working with in programme areas.
  • To ensure timely implementation of planned water and sanitation activities.
  • Delegated authority to supervise communities/partners at the activities implemented.
  • Communicates largely to internal staff as well as external contacts/target audiences to support work at the ground
  • Collecting information from village level and report to Public Health Engineer officer will can use to promote and influence

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To supervise and ensure the overall water and sanitation activities implemented by communities/partners following the detail drawing design (plan) and details Bills of quantities to be use
  • Establish weekly work plan as per direction given by Public Health Engineer Officer and follow-up and monitoring of its implementation
  • Ensure accountability principles and system are correctly in place and used
  • Linking with grassroots / organisations, and collaborate with the community / village leaders to ensure sharing of information and sustainability of project implementation
  • Carrying out training activities in the communities level
  • Monitor progress of Oxfam participation in communities’ workplan vis-a-vis targets and indicators
  • Propose plan of activities per village requiring Oxfam support (material, financial and logistic).
  • Providing list activities per villages requiring Oxfam lobbying to other organisations (NGOs, UN, government) and submit to Public Health Team Leader.
  • Implementing backing mechanism and monitoring & evaluation tools within the assigned communities
  • Coordinate with Public Health Engineer Officer to ensure proper implementation and monitoring
  • In coordination with Logistics team, ensure proper procedures for use and storage of material delivered are in place within the assigned communities
  • Submission of regular reports as required

  • Ability to organise and run training course and workshops within communities
  • Ability to write brief reports and share information
  • Experience of working with communities
  • Experience and understanding of teamwork
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Ability to understand gender issues within communities and Oxfam team
  • Commitment to the aims and beliefs of Oxfam and able to represent Oxfam to communities
  • Good knowledge and understanding of public health, and livelihoods development work
  • Initiative and tenacity to achieve results
