PROJECTS OFFICER

Press Trust is a public charitable Trust which is regulated by an Act of Parliament. The mandate of the Trust comprises management of commercial investments and funding social development programmes. Press Trust now seeks to engage the services of a suitably qualified Malawian to fill urgently the vacant position of Projects Officer.

General Description of the Job

The Projects Officer provides technical backstopping on all social development projects including appraisal, design, costing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assisting with project appraisals and preparing detailed project appraisal reports for funding approval by management and the Board of Trustees;
2. Undertakes technical design and specifications on infrastructure projects;
3. Scrutinizes building plans, documents, costs and ensures efficient use of resources;
4. Assisting in preparing tender documents;
5. Assisting during the procurement processes of contractors and service providers;
6. Reviewing tender evaluation reports on projects;
7. Preparing contract documents;
8. Supervising project implementation;
9. Monitoring all projects and preparing regular progress reports to Management and the Board of Trustees;
10. Advising management on recruitment of special consultants; and
11. Performing any other duties as assigned from time to time by Management.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

The position requires a dynamic, pragmatic and flexible individual with technical experience in project management. The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Studies obtained from a recognized and accredited university;
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies;
  • Not less than 5 years working experience in project design and supervision;
  • Computer literacy, including use of AutoCAD Design Software;
  • Ability to accommodate multicultural environment;
  • Willing to travel long distances across the country;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Good time management skills;
  • Innovative and effective team player; and
  • Sound leadership skills.
